Announcing the DVTS Residents & Fellows Scholarship for the STS Annual Meeting
DVSTS provides current fellows in training and residents with the unique opportunity to participate in the Residents & Fellows Scholarship, which offers tuition assistance to attend the 62nd STS Annual Meeting held from January 29 to February 1, 2026, in New Orleans. In total, three scholarships will be awarded as follows:
- 1 ACGME Fellow
- 1 non-accredited fellow (includes super-fellows at an ACGME Institution)
- 1 General Surgery resident with a demonstrated interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Scholarship includes:
A stipend of up to $1,500 will be provided to cover expenses related to attending STS 2026. This stipend will be processed two weeks after the meeting, once proof of attendance, travel itinerary, and hotel confirmation are received.

Eligibility for Scholarship
- Applicants must be enrolled in a residency or fellowship program in the Delaware Valley Region at the time of the meeting.
- Applicants must complete the application, including agreement to the requirements and the following document uploads by Monday, September 15:
- A letter indicating interest in attending the program and anticipated learning
- A signed support letter on letterhead from your program director confirming your status as a current resident or fellow in January 2026. The letter MUST state that the candidate does not have internal funding from their program to attend the meeting.
- Submit a completed W-9 form
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Terms of Acceptance
Acceptance of this scholarship requires the awardee to attend the STS Annual Meeting and provide proof of such.
Registration
Scholarship recipients must register for the conference within two weeks of receiving the acceptance email and send confirmation to DVSTS.
Scholarship recipients (US recipients only) must submit a completed W-9 form by Friday, December 5, 2025.
Travel Information
Scholarship recipients must organize their own travel and lodging and submit a copy of their final travel itinerary, including flight details, to Catherine Mikelson by Friday, December 19, 2025. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship.
Important Dates
Please see below for important dates:
- September 15, 2025: Application deadline
- October 10, 2025: Applicants will be notified of acceptance via email, and winners will be introduced at the Educational Event on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Waitlisted applicants will be notified as well.
- Within 2 weeks of email acceptance: Registration deadline. If you have been accepted for a scholarship and have not registered for the conference within two weeks of receiving your acceptance email, your scholarship will be forfeited and offered to someone on the waitlist.
- December 5: Payment information deadline. US applicants must submit their completed W-9 form
- December 19: Travel information deadline. Submit your travel itinerary to Catherine Mikelson at cmikelson@dvsts.org by this date.
- January 29- February 1, 2026: Attend STS 2026 in New Orleans, LA
Cancellations
Scholarships are limited. If you are unable to attend the STS Annual Meeting, please notify DVSTS immediately so we can offer the scholarship to another resident or fellow on the waiting list. Please email Catherine Mikelson at cmikelson@dvsts.org
